Olive Young's foreign-customer boom is no longer only a Myeongdong story.
From January through August 2026, foreign sales at Olive Young rose 47% nationwide year on year. Some of the fastest growth came from outside Seoul.
By the numbers
105% - Year-on-year increase in foreign sales in Gangwon Province
88% - Increase in Gyeongju
80% - Increase in Daejeon
62% - Increase in Jeonju
85 countries - Nationalities recorded among foreign Olive Young customers in Gangwon, up from 76
100 countries - Nationalities recorded in Gyeongju, up from 88
151 stores - Tourist-focused Olive Young locations nationwide
Foreign shopping is following the travel route
For years, the most visible foreign-shopping story centered on Myeongdong, Hongdae and Gangnam.
The 2026 data shows a wider pattern.
As international visitors travel through regional Korea, their K-beauty shopping is moving with them.
Gyeongju is a useful example. It has historically attracted visitors for heritage tourism, but foreign shoppers from 100 countries now appear in Olive Young customer data there.
That does not mean K-beauty has replaced cultural tourism.
It means beauty shopping is being added to trips that may have originally been planned around heritage, beaches or regional food.
Olive Young is responding
Olive Young says it plans to expand large-format and regionally tailored stores outside the capital region, particularly in major tourism destinations such as Busan and Jeju.
If foreign tourist spending continues to spread geographically, Korean beauty, food and everyday retail may become an increasingly important part of regional tourism economies.
For SEEN IN KOREA, the next question is not simply what foreigners buy.
It is where in Korea they are buying it.
